My Not That Exciting but Perfectly Fine Life

Family and Hair Styling Details

Here are some more family pics. The last two were taken when we went to Indy to visit the Lancasters over Labor Day weekend.

By the way, Carole, you had asked if my hair is easy to style. Let me just say, I have never used more product in all my life. Would you like to know the process? First I put moose in my hair, then hair dry it, then curl it, then style it with piecing paste and then hair spray it...heaven forbid it move from it's place once I've spent so much time investing in it. Silly, I know...but it's a new fun style and I like it for now. I'm getting faster with the whole routine. Practice makes perfect, eh?

Stairs to Storage

Here's another cool pic I took. These stairs take you to Andy and Elissa's storage unit...which by the way is REALLY HOT. Ellissa was looking for some papers in there and let me just tell you, it was quite stifling in there.

Peter

Here's a picture of Pete that I took when we were together a few weekends ago. I really like the black and white look! Anyway, isn't he handsome? Girls...he's still single.... OK. OK. I'll stop with that now. Anyway, just wanted to post this pic of my bro.

Settlers of Catan

Here's a close up of Settlers. It's really a complicated game, but fun once you get the hang of it. Basically you want to build roads, settlements and cities. The way you build any of those things is by collecting resources such as wood, ore, wheat and brick and then trading them in for whatever it is your building. It's all in the placement of your first road link and the luck of how the die lands. Ofcourse there is a point system and the first one to reach 10 points wins the game. You might say, "that's must be a quick game if you only have to get 10 points." Trust me, nothing could be farther from the truth. Remember when I said it's a game of strategy? Anything with strategy takes FOREVER! Nonetheless, it's a game worth checking out!

Family Fun & Games

This last weekend I trecked my way down to Upland to spend the weekend with Andy, Elissa and Peter. Pete flew in to see family in the Midwest before he's deployed to Afghanistan. We spent the weekend chatting, playing games, and watching a motorcycle race that came through Andy and Elissa's landlords property. That was fun becuase thier landlord, Larry, took us for a ride in his jeep. I was in the back standing up enjoying the many acres of woods and the feeling of the breeze sweep over my face. Pete was standing behind me and it's a good thing becuase a couple of times it got a bit rough and I might have fallen backwards had he not been there to catch me although I did have a pretty good grip on the jeep. It was just nice to know he was back there.

Among the games we played was The Settlers of Catan. I had never played it before but enjoyed it once I caught on to how it's played. It's a strategy game, so explaining it took probably a good 45 minutes. And it lasts forever! But non-the-less, it's definatley fun. I tried to post a close up picture of the game, however the computer is being slow and refuses to upload it. So, perhaps I'll try again later. We also enjoyed a few rounds of crazy canasta.

I'm sad I won't get to see Peter for another good year and a half probably. But, I guess that's just the way life is. As my Mom always says, "such is life". But at least we had a good weekend together.

Fall is in the Air

Well, it appears fall is in the air. I love fall... it's my favorite season. I just love the crispness in the air and the brightness of the changing leaves. How odd that leaves are in their prettiest state right before they die. There could be some symbolizm in that, but since I'm not in the mood to write a deep dialog about leaves, I'll leave that comment stand by itself.

It's funny how with every new season my schedule seems to change somewhat. I guess that's only natural. So, for this fall, I have a lot of things going on. They're all very good things, ofcourse, it just seems the pace of life has picked up once again. Which is why I haven't really updated this blog in a while.

For instance, every Wednesday night I'm attending this class at church called Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. Each class we watch a video of Dave teaching and then discuss it with the small group afterwords. We've only had one class so far, but I can tell this is really going to change the way I manage my money and as Dave Ramsey says, I could change my family tree. He really gives some great ways to manage your money, and I'm at an advantage since I'm so young...that is if I impliment what he's teaching. He has a way of really motivating me to do so though, and he's very funny. If you'd like to visit his web site it's www.daveramsey.com. I'd highly recommend his class, or if you don't have a class to attend where you live, his book is a good place to start.

I also have small group every Tuesday night and it looks like I might be joining a girls volleyball team in Decatur...just to fill in when they need me. We've entered the "we just want to have fun" level. And it's a good thing if I'm going to be filling in becuase that's about all I accomplish when I play volleyball. I really enjoy the sport, but seeing as how I was a runner in high school I never had the opportunity to learn the sport and play. Beach volleyball is the best!

I've also recently discovered a group of 20 somethings that meet every Sunday night and study the Bible together. Here's the blurb they had about it on their web site:

The Core is a ministry of young adults (singles and marrieds, 18-30 years old) who Sacrifice in Worship, Serve in Ministry, Soak in Teaching and Share in Community.

It's a part of Pathway Community Church here in Fort Wayne, but there are over 14 different churches represented in the group becuase it's probably the only one reaching out to this age group. I've gone a couple of times and it's been really good, so I'll probably go whenever I'm in town on the weekends.

So, that's what has been happening here for the last couple of weeks. Until next time, hope you enjoy the beginnings of fall.
